Clean Wine Stains from Carpets w/ Baking Soda

Blot the stain as much as possible. The less red wine you have to deal with in the end, the better. But don't rub it in! Lightly press against the stain with a paper towel or cloth, transferring as much from the carpet to your quicker-picker-upper as you can.
Pour some cold water onto the stain. This dilutes the stain, allowing more of it to rise from your carpeting. Continue blotting (with a new cloth) until you've obtained what you could.
Make a paste of one part baking soda to three parts water.[1] Mix it up well and apply it to the stain. Be sure to get all around the edges and apply generously. Leave it to dry.
Once it's dry, vacuum it up. The stain should be gone! If there's any residue left (which should be very minimal at best), reapply some cold water or a carpet cleaner, let dry, and vacuum once more. The carpeting should return to its normal texture and appearance.
